Day spa franchise plans to open 24 stores over next two years

Planet Beach Contempo Spa is rapidly expanding in Northern California and plans to open 24 more stores over the next two years, including a store that is slated to open in June in Turlock.

“We’re very excited with the response we’re getting,” says Kevin Nunes, who opened his first Planet Beach in Brentwood in 2006 and became an area representative for the franchise in 2007. “Customers like knowing that they can come as often as they want to relax and receive treatments that help them look and feel better.”

Nunes works with franchisees in Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, which grew by a combined 300,000 people from 2000 to 2010. The Turlock location, at 2220 West Monte Vista Ave., will be the ninth store in the area.

Planet Beach is unique in several ways.

First, it’s membership-based, with prices averaging $79 to $99 a month. For that fee, members get access to all of the spa’s services, and can use them as often as they like.

Second, Planet Beach uses high-tech therapy capsules, massage chairs and massage tables to provide consistent quality care for patrons. The push-button technology allows guests to enjoy the benefits of a great massage without having a masseuse in the room, and allows customers to stay fully dressed during treatments.
